On May 1920, the Cantina Sociale of Formigine was founded by 49 local growers. Mr. Eugenio Guastalla, forward-looking landowner of Jewish origin, was designated as first president and managed the winery until 1938, when he had to resign following the approval of racial laws. The work started by those pioneers has never been broken off and, just after a century, the company has turned into “Cantina Formigine Pedemontana”, a modern concern set up by merging the Cantina Pedemontana of Sassuolo, formed by roughly 380 partners who grow rare grapes on an expense of 600 hectares of vineyards, 70% of Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro DOC.
The new factory, opened in 2006, has been conceived through forefront solutions, but without leaving out the tradition; a fusion of past and future thus combining the age-long experience of traditional wine-making and the refinement of a modern flavor.
A wonderful selection by Montaia
The Montaia winery
Società Agricola Montaia Srl lies in the hills just outside Cesena, just a few miles inland from the Adriatic. With a constant sea breeze, the microclimate is ideal for winegrowing.
As a newly-built winery, Montaia has the most modern production equipment. Every stage in production, from fermenting to bottling, from stabilization to micro ltration, is directly managed by Montaia’s own staff in controlled-temperature conditions.
The Tonino Guerra Selection
Poetry in every bottle and on every label. Tonino Guerra was a great appreciator of Montaia wines, and we’re proud to have some of his works on the labels of this selection.
Guerra’s reputation as poet, director, scriptwriter, painter, writer and thinker is intimately connected with the traditions of his native Romagna.
Tonino Guerra’s Romagna is a Romagna where it is quality, never quantity, that counts: where the frontiers between tradition, poetry and art are erased. These same values are embodied in Montaia wines.
